Flight Security FOD Prevention Subprogram
The FOD (Foreign Object Damage) Prevention Subprogram which is part of the PPAA (Plano de Prevenção de Acidentes Aeronáuticos Aeronautical Accident Prevention Plan) is intended to avoid FOD occurrences, which are generally caused due to maintenance and operational activities of aircrafts or when the conditions of the airdrome infrastructure are deteriorated.
The decisive factors for controlling these risks are the awareness and the airport (and even the enterprise) operational adequacy programs. Therefore, BHS will soon implement this subprogram, with a view to establishing and advertising the FOD prevention and control procedures, which also involve cleaning of the courtyard and of the hangar, control of tools and protection of the sensitive areas to the parked aircrafts. Parallel to this action, Petrobras has also been working intensively on the FOD prevention, through a program called FOD Moment, in which the ones in charge of flight security at all airlines, together with the Infraero staff, inspect the courtyard of the Macaé Airport every Wednesday in order to collect any litter that could cause a FOD.
As a part of this implementation at BHS, some models of FOD collectors will be displayed at the basis, including mobile collectors, in order to facilitate the FODs collecting wherever they are located. Educational posters will also be put up, showing pictures of potential FODs collected at BHS and the necessary cares that should be taken in order to prevent them to become FODs in the future.
It is important to state that, alike any other successful action for concerning people, it is, it is essential that each person involved be an agent of FOD Control and Prevention, following the established procedures and getting involved actively. This mindset will be fundamental for establishing the flight security doctrine, which will lead BHS to the wished operational excellence.
