Accident Prevention Awareness Program
In November, BHS started the awareness program concerning Aeronautical Accident Prevention.
Handouts about important actions on accident prevention were distributed, exhibiting recommendations and current risks in our operations.
The recommendations are related to the use of the Hazard Report, which is a major well-known tool that helps identify a risk or an inappropriate action that might affect or compromise the safety of BHSs operations.
The specific information brochures for the maintenance and dispatch teams include an alert about their usual activities and the potential risks. For example, for the maintenance team, it shows that merely leaving a tool or object misplaced could turn into a potential FOD. For the dispatch, it displays the importance of adequate orientation and attentive observation of our passengers, once they are under our teams responsibility during embark and disembark. This way, every single attitude they might have at these moments (such as wearing inappropriate clothes caps, hats, name tags as well as littering around and carrying unsuitable luggage) are equally BHSs responsibility.
Besides, several improvements were made in terms of security and information material distribution at BHSs hangar. Those actions were led by Elaine Santos (BHS Labor Safety Technician) and had the cooperation our Flight Safety Department. They include the placement of safety and sticking tapes on the stairs; information brochures about safety actions concerning the hoist; attitude when working with safety; ophthalmologic washing kits; redefinition of the area of the fire extinguishers; setting up a safety path on the way to the hangar; expansion of the medicine cupboard; installation of two Safety Notice Boards with information and alerts related to Flight Safety.
